Results of the Samarkand meeting: focus on the ICAO audit and modern technologies.

From April 8 to April 11, 2026, a meeting of the Coordination Group on Aviation Security of the Central Asian and Caucasus region was held in the city of Samarkand, with the participation of representatives of the aviation authorities of the region’s states, as well as organizations and operators from the aviation industry.

The main focus was placed on issues related to preparation for and undergoing the ICAO aviation security audit. The Kyrgyz Republic presented its experience in assessing threats and risks in the field of aviation security. The approaches presented were positively evaluated as an effective and practical tool for risk management.

During the meeting, participants also discussed the implementation of modern screening technologies, including the use of artificial intelligence, the impact of the human factor, corporate quality control in airports, as well as ensuring the security of cargo, mail, and in-flight supplies. In addition, issues related to personnel training and the development of training systems were considered, including modern methods for assessing screening operators and approaches to the mutual recognition of security measures.

As part of the meeting, the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Coordination Group for 2026 were re-elected, with Georgia and Uzbekistan assuming these roles respectively. It should be noted that Kyrgyzstan chaired the Coordination Group in 2025.
